Early Edgewood- Early Candler Park Bike Tour

This is a Phoenix Flies related event.  Phoenix Files is an annual cultural event hosted by the Atlanta Preservation Center and its partners.  Civil Bikes is participating in hosting a bike tour for Phoenix Flies.  This tour is about the early history of the area known as Candler Park.  This bike tour is fascinating insight into the neighborhood’s Black past.  The tour begins when the area was first known as Edgewood.  On the bike tour, we will share some aspects of the lived experiences, central social spaces, residential areas and illustrative stories to make these Black spaces come alive.  Embedded in these stories will be the array of devices used to remove Black people and redefine Edgewood into a community for Whites only.

This tour recognizes the work of the BiRacial History Project based in Candler Park and the effort of the Candler Park Neighborhood association to continue telling the story.
